Ga is the language spoken by the original inhabitants of the capital of Ghana, Accra.
Ga is a Kwa language, part of the Niger–Congo family, and is very closely related to Adangme, and together they form the Ga–Dangme branch within Kwa.
The Ga have a diverse heritage and are descended from people who migrated down the Niger River and across the Volta during the 17th century and then organized themselves into six independent towns (Accra, Osu, Labadi, Teshi, Nungua, and Tema). Each town had a stool, which served as the central object of Ga ritual and war magic. Accra became the most prominent Ga town and is now the capital of Ghana.
